PAYSLIP: The proof of your salary or wages. It usually includes gross and net salary, employee deductions, employer contributions, leave and PAYE (tax).
GROSS SALARY: The salary received before deductions.
NET SALARY: The salary paid into your bank account after deductions.
MEDICAL AID: A form of insurance that provides cover for private medical care. Sometimes an employer may contribute to your medical aid as part of your package.
PAYE (PAY AS YOU EARN): A system of income tax that is deducted from your monthly salary or weekly wages and paid directly to Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) by your employer on your behalf.
ZIMDEF: Contributions by employers based on cost of the employment of staff. The payment is based on 1% of the total wage bill inclusive of allowances, bonuses, benefits, employer NSSA, Medical Aid, NEC and Pension contributions. This is meant to encourage learning and development.
