Social Grants

The government has many social grants it needs to pay. They need to spread the money they have for social grants to pay for:

  • Grant for older persons (pension)
  • Disability grant
  • War veteran’s grant
  • Care dependency grant
  • Foster child grant
  • Child support grant
  • Grant-in-aid
  • Social Relief of Distress

With a large number of people dependent on these grants, they may not be that substantial. It is advisable to plan for your retirement rather than rely on a grant.

Many people also rely on their children to provide for them when they retire. Like relying on social grants, this is not a good idea. In many cases, children are not able to provide for their parents to live comfortably and also take care of their own households.
